you know, back last time i listened to the radio at work it was a pretty sad affair. it was when i was at radiant two summers ago. day in day out i'd hear the same songs, oftentimes twice or more during the day. it was annoying, but kinda fun. i made a mix of all the songs i heard constantly that summer and you're in luck, because i just found the cd. now let's find out what those songs were back in the summer of '99.
1. the sundays - summertime: this was on my mix cd i brought to work and listened to when i wasn't listening to the radio
2. santana and rob crow, no rob crow is the guy in pinback. santana and the dude from that band - crush? smoke? smush? what the fuck is this song's name. well, you know which song it is. i can't believe i can't remember a.) the singer b.) the song name. SMOOTH. SMOOTH yes. still don't know rob's name but i think he's in matchbox 20? rob thomas. i'm a genius. anyway yeah, this song.
3. len - steal my sunshine: this not from the radio but also from my mix, although i did fall in love with the girl when i saw the video after work most days.
4. madonna - beautiful stranger: i never claimed to have a passion for these songs, i just heard them nonstop and they represent a time in my life. also, i hate this song.
5. fatboy slim - rockafeller skank: can't remember if this was radio or mix, but i know it was FIFA first.
6. ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
LFO - summer girls: i like this song. what the fuck is he talking about. "hip hop marmalade spic and span / met you one summer and it all began / you're the best girl that i ever did see / the great larry bird jersey 33 / when you take a sip you buzz like a hornet / billy shakespeare wrote a whole bunch of sonnets / call me willy whistle cause i can't speak baby / something in your eyes went and drove me crazy / now i can't forget you and it makes me mad / left one day and never came back / stayed all summer then went back home / macauley culkin wasn't home alone / fell deep in love love but now we ain't speaking / michael j fox was alex p keaton / when i met you i said my name was rich / you look like a girl from abercrombie and fitch." that's either brilliant or the most idiotic thing ever written. the second verse makes much more sense - it's disappointing.
7. new radicals - you get what you give: this song is still alright
8. cher - strong enough: hey man, it was the radio, not me
9. ricky martin - livin' la vida loca
10. geri halliwell - look at me: yeah, the hot ex-spice girl. sexy spice or something. i like this song. brits can get away with cheesey ass pop for some reason.
11. somebody - she likes me for me: haven't heard this song forever, i'm still down with it.
12. sixpence none the richer - kiss me
13. smashmouth - all star: eww
14. sugar ray - every morning: every goddam ride home if this song came on i did nothing but sing harmony
15. britney spears - sometimes: awwwwww
16. will smith - wild wild west: wow, was this really 2 years ago? wonder where my wild wild west sunglasses are.
17. fatboy slim - praise you: haven't heard this for ages. still rules though.
18. joydrop - beautiful: obviously from my mix cd, heh. although i first heard it on the radio... and then never again. this song also kicks ass.
and that's the end.
I really had no intention of writing down the track list, but i found the cd and was curious. the reason for the mention was simply a setup. saying that 2 years ago it was the same radio every day. well, it's the same deal now. except instead of madonna and ricky and lfo, the day goes a lot like this:
dntel - (this is) the dream of evan and chan, notwist - one with the freaks and pick up the phone, belle & sebastian - i'm waking up to us, death cab for cutie - all is full of love, stu walker - tvamd, hefner - baggage reclaim song, scott 4 and magic car - for teens in the meantime, a mooney suzuki song, something by mum, that clientele song i can't remember the name of, the new dj shadow single, and then some other rotating shit. and then, depending on the dj, there's some really whacked out shit. moral of the story, who'd of thought i'd ever be on the brink of getting sick of dntel from hearing it on the radio so frequently?
and then i came home and played super smash bros until 11:30. now i should be going to sleep. tomorrow i go to work come home then go to jersey with katie. huzzah.
