nostalgia = distortion

hrm hmm oh yeah, i got a new phone. it's super sexy and small and crap, and i'm quite enamoured of it. and i've got the data cable on the way, and with that, i can hax0r my phoen and load my own MIDIs as polyphonic ringtones so i can have the theme to ALF or something and i will be truly respected. I'm such a gadget whore though. I walked into verizon because the battery on my phone was junk and i needed to get it fixed. but in the back of my mind was "get something new." but mainly because i knew verizon was going to screw me somehow. but instead, i'm like "the battery is junk" and they're like "ok, we'll get a new battery in there" "Even though i'm out of warranty, i think it's ridiculous that I'm going to have to pay for it" "don't worry about it, we'll replace it for free" "umm, can i get a new one instead?" hahaha so instead of walking out with my perfectly good phone in perfectly fine working order for zero dollars, i spent considerably more than that for a younger, sexier model.

aside from that not too much has happened... i don't think... on friday night i met tony and chrissy after work at maryanne's for beers and another golden tee related injury, and then we had dinner while watching vh1's pop culture icons or whatever, and then it was off to umm... our house? maybe, yeah, our house. another round of golden tee and then i went home. the our house round we played a pro course. Whereas on amateur tony and i ended around 10 under par, the pro course we were both around 30+... quite humbling i assure you.

Saturday the plan was to leave to PA with dave around 7:30 for the big bostonian gathering. around 8am i got a call from dave who had just gone to the body shop to pick up his car and he was basically told that the tire to his car could fall off at any time. SO there went our plans.

Instead, i got out of bed, made some coffee and began what would be many many hours of everquest. Then much later i went some place where tony was at, watched chasing amy, and then we went to our house where i kissed a bachelorette at her bachelorette party. hopefully that engagement was destroyed by my awesomeness.

sunday i unfortunately stayed in bed until 11 or so, quite a waste i am, and then did uhh i don't recall.

This week has progressed as do many others. Interviewing with a few positions at staples corporate on Monday and then hopefully the paolo connection will land me an interview at State Street.

I made fried rice yesterday and a nice crisp salad today. Salads aren't bad. I've decided i sleep too much and it's crappy sleep. So I will eat better and stay up later, and hopefully i won't wake up angry and hating life. and tired. so tired.

into forever

job search continues in earnest. it sorta stopped last week, when i thought maybe i had a new job, but that obviouly did not occur, so now i'm back, with a vengeance or two.

On Friday night, in a continued effort not to go out to a bar and do normal social things, I went down to southie with a couple of guys at work for a big time poker game. I wore a fairly decent shirt to the game, held in some dude's basement while we drank mexican beer listening to country records while playing cards with chips in denominations of $1, $5 and $10, it was a blue shirt, got it at express. Anyway, by the end of the night, hell if i knew what happened to this shirt, I just couldn't find it... you might say that it was... lost.

Then on saturday, i woke up at ten and fired up a pot of coffee and fired up everquest, and played like a fiend for, oh all day. In a strange break from my campaign to not go out to bars and do normal social activities, I put calls in to both tony and adam and was met with voice mail. So then i returned to everquest until, oh, 3am. One might say that I played an unhealthy amount of an online game on Saturday, and they wouldn't even be close.

Sunday i chilled, and did stuff, and then sent off a kajillion resumes.

Today, I played the most awesome game of ncaa football in the universe. (greatness score of 737). I've already recounted the details to the "talk about ncaa2k4" e-mail group, so i'll save the other person who reads this site in person. Largely because i already tried to tell her and she rudely cut me off. BC beat Miami in what will surely be the Big East game of the world. I rule.

fumble

allow me to use this space to whine about how i suck at ncaa200x. I used to be good, pretty damn good. then, sometime last year during my first season with syracuse, i started sucking hardcore, and i have not yet recovered.

for example, i picked up 2004 yesterday and lost my first game. Then today, i practiced running plays for 3 hours. Three hours. and then i started a dynasty with BC. My first game, #68 Wake Forest. I play two halves (of seperate games). I blow. 3 and out constantly. 1/12 passing. fumbles, muffs and interceptions and sacks. It's freaking depressing. Finally on try three i eke out a decent game, mainly because derek knight ran 200 yards in the first half and then promptly got injured out of the game. Leaving me with a not-so-hot backup HB and my crappy passing game. final was 17-14, i do not have high hopes for the future. Also, i'm playing on medium difficulty. Also, dynasty is not nearly as much fun with just one person.

i'm tired. wah.

ding!

it's time for my weekly update, but i'm tired an am going to bed!

nick and nite is doing this thing where they just run blocks of one show all night long. now, for someone used to two episodes of one show then another, this can tend to confuse me. especially when my mind is distracted by things like everquest (shh, no i'm not playing). for instance, tonight, the cheers block started at nine, and suddenly it's 11:30.

i had an interview yesterday that went well... too well... we'll see what happens there. getting the job would certainly make me very happy.

uhh err eep

i went to buy glasses today, and i get to the store and had to leave within 5 mintues because there are a billion glasses and they all look the same and i don't know which are for boys and which are for girls and also i couldn't try them on because i'm wearing my own glasses and without them i'm blind. also, i don't know which would look good anyway. jin says i should bring katie, but katie won't help in something like that. i should take mike, or those guys on that gay guy dressup show.

ok, bedtime.

nope

wow, could the paradise hotel reworking of "two tickets to paradise" be any worse?

anyway, job hunt 2003 finally resulted in someone getting back to me in a way that wasn't an automated "we've received your resume" e-mail. interviewing monday at the codman co. real estate/property management but mostly commercial properties and is gigantic compared to my current 6-man office. It's property accounting, but real accounting instead of the crap that takes up most of my time now and a lot more analytical work. so from now and monday i should find out how to pretend that i know a little about commercial real estate and also relearn what real accounting procedures are like, heh.

monday i was miserably sick, and by today it's paired down to just a tiny nag of a couch and a lot of phlegm. go me.

bought cds today for the first time in a while. new postal service single, new +/- ep, and lps from clientele and an icebreaker/manual collaboration from morr. a track from the disc is on the 2 cd morr slowdive deal and it's a gorgeous late night track, so here's hoping for more of that.

ok, time to do other stuff then see pirates. arrr.

wankers, poofs and bints

uh oh. i just mixed up the cosby show with a real-life memory. It was the episode where rudy finds a dog, they place an ad, and the owners come to pick it up and bring a bushel of apples from the orchard they live on. So i'm watching this and thing "weird, this is just like that time that we found or watched a dog and then the owners came to pick it back up and brough a bushel of apples." except that never happened. yikes.

I've apparently developed hardcore allergies as I have been sneezing and dripping all day without any of the other feelings that usually accompany a cold. Not a fan of this, i hope it goes away, like, overnight.

SO last time i wrote here it was right before my big foray into cooking. I did that on tuesday, made the scallops with prosciutto, asparagus and rice. aside from the asparagus being crispier than katie or i would have liked, i will say that the whole event went swimmingly. Sure it was like an hour and half of prep, cooking and cleanup for a 10 minute meal, but it was very satisfying and I enjoyed the franticness of all three dishes being prepared at the same time. Perhaps i will cook something this week.

Thursday was my birthday, and aside from my family, and some random person who i guess read or has read this site, no one remembered. i was like molly ringwald in sixteen candles but really not at all. I guess i was sort of asking for people to forget because umm, i didn't mention it at all (i didn't remember myself until maybe a week beforehand). And its not like i remember birthdays at all, but all it takes is for one person to be on the ball and tell other people and that didn't happen. I eventually told katie as she was leaving for dinner with adam which then turned into an ad hoc birthday dinner at sunset cantina. that was nice, mike was there too and then we went to city sides for a couple of beers and then i went off to the avenue and met tony and co. for tequila shots and golden tee. I hesitate to say worst birthday ever, because really, i ended up going out and i have a summer birthday which always sucks, but still, worst. birthday. ever. and aside from a box from mom, no presents. lame.

Friday was the fourth of july, which is the day of the year my friends think it's an awesome idea to go out and torture themselves for 9 hours to see the fireworks. Now, i love the fireworks, they're really great. but it's hardly worth a day out in unbearable heat. I'd much rather be home watching tv or something on the day off. But it's not like i have a say in the matter so to the esplanade i went. Not as hot as last year but still pretty hot when the clouds went and hid. We got a nicer spot than last year and also had a lot more real estate. Lori even brough a tent. We're really moving up the ladder of fourth of july setup. I took my traditional break to the air conditioned movie theater and saw terminator 3, which was just absolute shit. about as dumb as an action movie can possibly get, full of embarrassing humor that was essentially mocking T2. The terminatrix was a poor man's T-1000 in red leather, and all the action scenes were seriously just copies of T2 scenes but not done as well. I was conflicted. On one hand, i was pissed at the movie for ruining a decent franchise, but on the other hand, i was in air conditioning for a few hours. i'll call it a draw.

Got back just in time for the start of the show, which took FOREVER because i guess it was broadcast nationally on CBS or something which required a commercial break every 5-10 minutes. Seriously, no fireworks until like 10:30-11, which i think is a good hour, hour and a half later than before. super lame. however, the fireworks freaking ruled.

Saturday i just chilled out. We caught 28 days later that night, it wasn't spectacular, but i liked it.
then today there was sadly no mcdonalds because katie wanted to enjoy the nice weather or some garbage like that. we watched buffy a little later, and then blah blah blha sneeze drip sneeze.

at ten pm i starting importing more old entries in because i noticed july of 2002 had somehow been passed over. I swear, i did July-October 2001 and it took an hour. i was uhh a bit more prolific back then.

gotta call about a job tomorrow. applied to one or two tonight and there's the one that's phone only, odldy enough. also oddly enough, they're all property management companies. what am i thinking? oh, right. I'm thinking that it doesn't matter where i apply to because half these jobs are just for farming resumes and the other half won't call me back anyway. man it sucks.

achoo. blaaaaah.
